2/10/17: I Want to be Right with God

images-2If we love God, most likely the cry of our heart is, “Lord, I want to be right.” We’re living our lives day-to-day in this world filled with triumph and tragedy, joy and pain, heart-bursting love and heart-breaking lost love; and sometimes, we get caught up in these vicissitudes and drift away from relying on God. However, when we come to ourselves, or rather, when we come to the end of ourselves, we find that God has been waiting all the time for us to return for redirection. Then, once again, we find our hearts crying out, “Lord, please help me, I want to be right.”

Psalm 19:7-14 contains the perfect prescription to fulfill our desire to be right. It says:

  •  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.
  • Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me.
  • Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. (NKJ)

In the three divisions of the passage above, we find that the Word of God holds benefits that will make us right; the work of God supplies cleansing and restraint that will keep us right; and the worship of God will keep our focus on Him so we’ll have a continuing passion to stay right.
