9/20/16: Restraint

unknown-2An Italian Proverb says, “Big mouthfuls often choke,” and in William Shakespeare’s play As You Like It, Rosalind asks, “Can one desire too much of a good thing?” (Act IV, Scene I). Evidently, Rosalind, the answer is yes. We can get a taste of something great and figure we’re going for it – all of it, all at once. Then we find out that we were only exposed to the top layer, the outer façade. We discover there’s much more involved in having that particular dream than we even anticipated, and we could find that – as another wise saying aptly states – we have bitten off more than we can chew.

Restraint is the order of the day. Even good things need to be experienced slowly and in moderation. The Bible puts it this way: “Have you found [pleasure sweet like] honey? Eat only as much as is sufficient for you, lest, being filled with it, you vomit it” Proverbs 25:16 (Amplified Bible).

Let’s start today taking our time to savor the sweet things that flow through our lives. Enjoy the birds’ chirping; stop and watch the gracefulness of their flight. Feel the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the breeze; linger long enough to let that feeling register in the mind and heart. Experience breathing; really think about all that’s taking place in one cycle of exhalation and inhalation. Be grateful for the job or lack thereof; the job supplies a service, the time off provides room for growing faith. Show tangible appreciation to the ones we love: send a card, give flowers, shoot over an e-mail, make a phone call, give an unexpected kiss.

God has given so much that is good. Instead of greedily misusing it, let’s savor its sweetness with restraint. There’s plenty where that came from.

Unknown-2Mission Trip Update! 20 days to go! NOW THERE’S A $1,000.00 MATCHING GRANT! All donations sent between September 1 – September 26 will be matched up to $1,000.00. That means you’ll actually be helping with double the amount you send! I still need $1,055.00 – $1,555.00 for lodging, food, visas, gift books for the women’s conference, etc. Please do not hesitate. I really need your financial donations now. Donations so far have covered my air travel and my vaccinations.

The trip has been narrowed down to KENYA and ZAMBIA! I’ve seen the proof of the posters that will be passed out and the billboards that will be placed throughout the cities. I will be teaching at the Leader’s Seminars, encouraging the ladies at the Women’s Seminars, and preaching at the evening crusades. People travel all over the world every day, but it’s my first time and I’m pinching myself being sure it’s all actually real! Thank you in advance! You can give three ways:

  1. Via Paypal through my ministry website: http://www.lifethatmatters.net. Click “Donate.” [Remember that Paypal charges a 3-4% fee on my end.]
  2. By check sent to my post office box: P.O. Box 1519, Inglewood, CA 90308
