8/26/16: God’s Ownership

imagesJob and his friends went around and around about the reasons for Job’s problems. Their speeches posed many conjectures including the possibility that Job had sinned. In the final analysis, though, God never explained to Job why he had had all the troubles. At the end of the book of Job, God spends several chapters merely proving to Job that He could do whatever He wanted because He was God. This was not said as a bully would say it; the comment was simply a matter of fact. One short sentence summed it all up for me. God said, “Everything under heaven is Mine” Job 41:11b.

If we who say we trust in God ever grasp the enormity of that statement, we’d stop worrying, we’d stop complaining, we’d stop wondering, and we’d stop entering into hassles. Since everything under heaven is His, that means our worries, problems, questions, and hassles are His. That issue with the co-worker? It’s His. That anxiety about that child? It’s His. That hassle over the grade? It’s His. That question about the future? That’s His too.

Ownership means control. Since everything under heaven is God’s, that means everything under heaven is under His control. We need to adopt the stance that approaches each ripple and waUnknownve in the tide of life by saying, “God, this problem is yours.” Then if any question remains, it should then be worded, “What do you plan to do about it?”
