4/11/16: Expect the Unexpected

Mary Magdelene approached the garden tomb with spices, expecting to anoint the body of her Lord. She brought something to give Him. He had done so much for her; she expected to do something for Him. She knew where to find Him, and she expected Him to be there in the same way she had seen Him last – still and dead.

She saw Him all right. She was in the right garden and He indeed was there, but she saw Him in a way she didn’t expect. He was outside of the tomb and very much alive! What she had brought was well-intentioned and no doubt even appreciated, but on this morning, her gift was not needed. Instead, Jesus had something extra-special in store for her — Himself.

Let’s approach church and devotional times expecting to see the Lord. But don’t be surprised: He’s liable to show up with something extra-special in store for you too. Be ready to meet the resurrected Lord daily. Hallelujah, He is risen. He is risen indeed!

  1. I recall that as a young boy growing up, my mother would buy a “special” Christmas gift for me and my sister. She cared for her children sacrificially. I believe that Jesus Christ is filled with joy when He provides God’s children with understanding of the Holy Spirit inspired word. In addition, I believe that He is jubilant whenever we truly understand His word, apply it to our daily lives, and encourage other Christians with our insight, and share His word with the lost, least, and last. Above all, I truly believe God is overjoyed when we live lives of genuine humility putting the needs of others ahead of our own and submitting ourselves to God and people as the lowest servant.

  2. This Sunday I was face-to-face with our Lord & Savior on more than 1 occasion. The first time was as I stood in the front of the Sanctuary as a prayer partner. One of my fellow prayer partner, who survived a serious bout with cancer & became a true witness to the healing power of Jesus, is now facing another bout in another part of his body. As we formed a circle with him, the healing arms of Christ embraced us & we all were assured that “God’s got this!” The next time I greeting for the next service, when a woman I’ve prayed with ever since she was diagnosed with breast cancer, entered treatment & was completely cleared of her cancer by the grace of God & has not stopped praising Him & thanking Him with the songs from her lips, the prayers of thankfulness from her heart, & her bringing her family members & friends to Him in prayer for healing & comfort or bringing of a praise report when those prayers were answered. I saw Jesus in her eyes as we wiped the tears of joy from them. That’s just a couple of the times I saw Him that morning! Hallelujah!
