2/26/16: Get the Help You Need

In Mark chapter 5, we read of two people who turned to Jesus for assistance even though they shouldn’t have. Verses 22-23 tell us about Jairus. He’s the first ruler of the synagogue to approach Jesus favorably in this book. Those guys are usually seen throughout Scripture giving Jesus the blues, but Jairus broke ranks because he had a good reason for turning to Jesus. He needed help. We read, “And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.’”

The other person is a woman whose infirmity made her unclean and by Jewish law, she shouldn’t have been touching people or she’d make them unclean too. Verses 25-28 tell us, “Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.’” This woman decided she had suffered long enough. Like everyone else, she had heard that Jesus could heal people, so when he arrived in her town, she went to Him. She needed help.

Do you need help? Forget your group’s expectations, the social norms, and even your own prejudices. The wise person seeks help where it can be found. Start with the basics. Acts 4:12 is clear: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (NKJ); as is John 14:6 in which Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (NKJ)

Jesus meets every need – from salvation for your soul, to deliverance in your situation, and yes even to healing for your body. Need help? Jesus is the answer.
