2/25/16: Give Your Testimony

DSC00940

The Gadarene demoniac of Mark chapter 5 had been possessed by a legion of demons for a long time. Once Jesus cast the evil spirits out of him, the man was so grateful that he begged Jesus to let him become one of the people who traveled with Him. Jesus didn’t allow that. Instead, Jesus told the man, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” So that’s what the guy did. “And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled” Mark 5:19-20 (NKJ). Now Decapolis was a ten-city region in a district in Syria, so this guy was doing some proclaiming!

What has God done for us? It’s quite natural to feel an intense draw toward God when we experience His great blessings, but He actually doesn’t want us just hanging around Him all the time. He expects for us to get out to our Decapolis and tell “what great things the Lord has done… and how He has had compassion” on us.

When you give your testimony, you will be in good company.

  • The Psalmist does it in Psalm 66:16 when he says, “Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me” (NIV).
  • King Nebuchadnezzar does it in Daniel 4:1-3. “To the peoples, nations and men of every language, who live in all the world: May you prosper greatly! It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation” (NIV).
  • The woman at the well does it in John 4:28-29. “Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?’” (NIV).

Do you want to make an impact today? Give your testimony.

  1. Amen!Amen!Amen! Sharon for months your blog has been so uplifting for me. I finally get a free moment to let you know.I have been caring for my mom who has dementia disease and its progressing very fast. With that being said each time I get tired of the journey one of your blogs gives me a jolt to keep on trudging along and to trust God in the process.God bless you and may He continue to use you in a mighty way. 2. Talked with Saundra this morning for almost an hour. She’s much more joyful now & I’m happy for her. Most of our conversation was about how much of our individual testimony is centered around “Daddy!” When I observe either of you teaching or preaching, I see Dad in both of your delivery styles & right down to numerous mannerisms that are exclusive to the Norris Clan! The way you both use pauses & accentuate them with that Norris silent, laughing, loving smile! Now that I’m saved, I’m sure he recognizes me! Praise the Lord!!!

  3. Oh! By the way, today is Azonya’s 14th birthday! I’m so proud of she & her Mother, my daughter Nikki, that I tear up just thinking about how the Lord has blessed our family so!
