10/3/15 – Shine

The first verse of Stephen Hurd’s song entitled The Glory Of The Lord says, “The Glory of the Lord is in this place, come worship in this place, in the Glory of the Lord.” Whenever I heard that song, I thought of the “place” as the church. I interpreted the lyrics to be saying that the glory of the Lord was in the church, and we were being called into a time of corporate worship while together as a body of believers at church.

However, after reading the third chapter of second Corinthians, this lyric took on new meaning. Paul discusses how Moses’ face shone with the glory of the Lord after he had communed with Him for 40 days and nights. In fact, his face was so shiny that he placed a veil over it because the people couldn’t even look at him. He was a walking light bulb in need of a shade. Paul goes on to say that thanks to Jesus, God’s glory can now shine through us and be seen without a veil.

Consider 2 Corinthians 3:18. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (NKJ). When we, like Moses, spend time with God and come in contact with Him, the only possible result is a shiny face. As we look at Christ – spend time with Him in prayer and the study of the Word – we “are being transformed into the same image.” What image is that? The image of Christ. People will look at us and see the strong family resemblance. What they see – and what we should see in our own lives as we mature in God – is the glory of that Lord. Glory is unmistakable and grabs attention.

So, when Stephen Hurd sings, “The glory of the Lord is in this place,” the “place” He is speaking of is our own heart. God’s glory is in us. We worship in and with our very bodies.

Take off your veil. Shine!
