7/6: When You Don’t Choose Jesus

In Acts chapter 13, Paul and Barnabas spoke to Jews in a synagogue about the fact that Jesus was the Holy One of God. They told the crowd that “through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses” (vss. 38-39, NKJ). When the Jews rejected this message, Paul and Barnabas told them, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles” (vs. 46, NKJ).

Notice something: God did not judge those Jews; they judged themselves. By rejecting the Word of God that told them about Jesus, they judged themselves “unworthy of everlasting life.”

The exact same thing happens today. We judge ourselves unworthy of everlasting life—unworthy of Heaven—when we reject Jesus. God doesn’t send folks to hell when they die, they send themselves. When we don’t choose to follow Jesus, we are making a choice for everlasting separation from God. There is just one qualification for getting into Heaven, and that’s to believe in Jesus, which includes all He is, all He says, and all He’s done. Thinking we’ll be in Heaven without fulfilling the qualification is as silly as thinking we’ll graduate from a school in which we’ve never enrolled.

Choose Jesus today!
