3/18: Good Lookin’ Out

When someone does or says something that leads to a beneficial result for you, another way of expressing your thanks is to say, “Good lookin’ out!” For example:

  • If a friend lets you know that a place is hiring for the very position you have been seeking, you’d say, “Good lookin’ out.”
  • If you are broke and really hungry, and then your buddy tells you to come along to lunch with him to your favorite restaurant because he just happens to have a two-for-one coupon, you’d say, “Good lookin’ out.”
  • If you were on your way to an interview and in the ride up to the office in the elevator, you shared that with the lady who smiled at you, and she told you that you had spinach in your teeth, you’d say, “Good lookin’ out.”

The great news is that we have a God who is always looking out for us. Psalm 34:15 states, “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” And as if that weren’t enough, the Psalmist goes on to tell us even more ways God looks out for us.

  • Verse 17: The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.
  • Verse 18: The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.
  • Verse 19: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
  • Verse 20: He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken.
  • Verse 22: The Lord redeems the soul of His servants and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.

God sees, hears, delivers, stands near, saves, guards, and redeems. Any way you slice that, what’s left to say to God is, “Good lookin’ out!”
