0319: Down in My Bones

031913: Down in My Bones

I remember hearing the old people say, “I feel it down in my bones.” They could have been talking about you telling the truth (or a lie), which way to go pertaining to an important decision, or a change in the weather. Whatever it was, when they knew something for sure, they would feel it down in their bones.

The Psalmist must have been around the same old people I knew because he seems to have picked up their saying. In Psalm 35:10 he says, “All my bones shall say, “Lord, who is like you, delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, yes, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?”

Indeed, all we can do is shake our heads in wonder as we recall how God has performed his deliverances for us. I would venture to guess that there have been times in most of us when someone or some situation has bee too strong against us, or someone or something was trying to plunder us?

Perhaps sickness once stopped us in our tracks, being too strong for us, trying to plunder us of our health or our very life. Then God’s deliverance stepped in. Maybe our children’s prodigal ways have been too strong for us, threatening to plunder our joy, and forcing us not just to our knees, but to sprawl out prostrate on our faces before Him on their behalf. Then God stepped in.

And when God stepped in, you felt Him, didn’t you? Let me guess: you felt Him down in your bones.

From down in our bones, let’s exclaim as the Psalmist does, “Lord, who is like you!?”
