Jesus’ Facebook Photo and Profile

If the apostle John had had an iPhone while exiled on the isle of Patmos, he surely would have taken a picture of Jesus and posted it on Facebook for all to see. Here’s what the photo would have looked like:

  •  Someone “like a son of man,” dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest
  • His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow
  • His eyes were like blazing fire
  • His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace
  • His voice was like the sound of rushing waters
  • In his right hand he held seven stars
  • Out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword
  • His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance

Accompanying the photo, Jesus would probably have added in His profile:

  • Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last
  • I am the Living One
  • I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!
  • And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

No need to have a Facebook account, though, to get this snapshot and this profile. It’s recorded for us in the original Facebook—the Book that shows us Jesus face-to-face—the Bible. The description is found in Revelation 1:13-18 (NIV). We may not have any paper or digital photos of Jesus, but the Bible is full of explanatory snapshots showing us in no uncertain terms what Jesus is like, and making clear to us who He is.

John may not have had an iPhone or Facebook, but He had something far more important, a heart-to-heart and face-to-face relationship with Jesus that made him know that Christ was real and that Christ was who He said He was. Thanks to the five Bible books John wrote (St. John; First, Second, and Third John; and The Revelation), combined with the 61 other books of the Bible, we too can know Jesus heart-to-heart, and eventually, face-to-face.
