The Freedom the Veterans Gave Us

I know that Memorial Day is set aside as a day for us to remember our war veterans, especially those who gave their lives in defense of our country. I love the freedoms I enjoy in the United States and I’m grateful for every veteran, both the dead and the living, who fought and are fighting to keep my nation free.

It’s because of my national freedom that I have been free to discover true freedom. All my life, I have been free to attend the church of my choice and hear the Word of God. My country did not have laws hindering the free proclamation of the Bible, and thanks to that, I was able to discover in comfort all about the love of Jesus. That freedom allowed me to read, study, and understand John 8:31-36 which says, “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free…Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.'”(NKJ)

The freedom afforded us by our veterans opened the door to our ability to receive and extend to others the freedom afforded us in Christ. Thank you veterans for making it easy for me to turn my face to God and say, “Thank you, Jesus.”
