Week 10, Day 5 – Sent to be Spent

Spiritual Discipline to Practice: Service

Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (NIV).

In The Reading Room @ the Water’s Edge, an online site about spiritual disciplines, the writer notes:

  • Service is not merely a spiritual discipline—it is a way of orienting one’s entire life. However, practicing service as a discipline will help in directing that orientation. The discipline of service frees us from resentment, arrogance, and the need to be in control. (www.watersedge.tv/disciplines)

Now that you realize you have been sent to be spent, think of the unique ways God has ordered your life. What has He entrusted into your hands that you can now use to serve others? Practice this weekend actively doing something about “spending yourself” for someone else.

  1. Yes! You continue to speak HIS words to me. Thank you Sharon. We are sent to be spent. I encourage others to go to the WatersEdge website which you referenced. What a treasure trove regarding spiritual disciplines they have there. I had to bookmark that one on my Kindle, so I may be ‘refreshed’ later as I browse through their site. Keep on writing Susan! love you.
