Week 10, Day 3: Sent to be Spent

Write your heart’s response to the passages upon which you meditated yesterday.

John 20:19-21 …He showed them His hands and His side… So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” (NKJ)

  • What is your response to seeing the scars in Jesus’ hands, feet, and side?

Isaiah 61:1-3  [Jesus was sent]… to preach good tidings to the poor… to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. (NKJ)

  • To which category do you most identify today? Is Jesus preaching good tidings into your poverty? Is He healing your broken heart? Etc.

Matthew10:16  Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. (NKJ)

  • What is your response to being sent out as a sheep in the face of your wolves? Can you identify the “wolves” in your life?

Matthew 28:18-20  And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. (NKJ)

  • How do you feel about being sent out in this way?

John 17:18-21  As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (NKJ)

  • How does it feel to know that Jesus prayed specifically for you?

Acts 1:8  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me inJerusalem, and in allJudeaandSamaria, and to the end of the earth. (NKJ)

  • What is your reaction to knowing you have the power to be a witness for God?

Prayer of Thanksgiving: Thank you God for sending me as You have sent Jesus. I am especially thankful to realize…
