Week 6, Day 3: Run the Race

Week 6 – Day 3

Theme: Run the Race

Write your heart’s response to the passages upon which you meditated yesterday.

Romans 5:19-21 (NLT)

Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • What does the grace of God mean to you?
  • This verse says you are now in right standing with God and that results in eternal life. How do you feel about this truth?

Romans 8:1-4 (NIV)

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

  • This verse says you are free from “the law of sin and death.” What does this mean to you?
  • What does it mean to you to “live according to the Spirit” rather than to “live according to the sinful nature”?

 Romans 3:30-31 (NLT)

There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.

  • This Scripture says that it is “only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.” What does this mean to you?

Prayer of Thanksgiving: Thank you that Jesus obeyed You to make me righteous. Thank you that grace gives me right standing with God and the ultimate reward of Heaven in my future. Thank you that even though the Law could only show me my sin but not effectively change it, You took care of my sin by sending Jesus who “fully met” the “righteous requirements of the Law” in my stead. Thank you that my faith – also made possible only through You – truly fulfills the Law.
