Week 5, Day 5 – The Big Ten

Grace Communion International has a website that has posted studies of the spiritual disciplines. In the study on “worship,” a wonderful description of the discipline says:

  •  When they think of worship, some people think of singing, attending church services or praying. These are certainly beautiful expressions of worship, but it goes beyond that. Worship is what our lives ought to be – a dynamic, everlasting celebration of God. Our spiritual service of worship is ultimately giving ourselves to Him gladly and sacrificially with each passing day — it is a lifestyle. This is our privilege, our purpose and our fulfillment (www.gci.org/spiritualdisciplines).

Worship God by consciously living the lifestyle that follows the Ten Commandments this weekend:

  • Be sure to worship God directly by acknowledging His reign in your life
  • Steer clear of anything that dares to raise itself above God in your life
  • Honor God’s name, and
  • Keep the Sabbath day holy

Then go on to honor God through your relationships with others.

  • Honor your parents
  • Refuse to “murder” anyone physically, emotionally, or psychologically.
  • Honor your marriage by staying exclusively involved with your spouse (or if not married, refuse all inappropriate contact with married individuals).
  • Participate only in honest financial dealings and take nothing that is nor legally yours to obtain; i.e. don’t steal).
  • Tell the truth
  • Exhibit contentment.
