Even the God of 9-11, Part 5

Luke 9:11reads, “But the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about thekingdomofGod, and healed those who needed healing” (NIV). And John 9:11says, “He replied, ‘The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see” (NIV).

I love the accounts of when Jesus healed people. One of the amazing realizations I noticed is that Jesus didn’t always heal people the same way. Sometimes he spoke to them first about thekingdomofGodand then healed them, as in Luke 9:11 above. On another occasion, he made mud to spread on a blind man’s eyes and told him to wash it off in the pool at Siloam, as in John 9:11 above. (That pool guy was probably none too happy, but I digress!) Sometimes Jesus touched the ones needing healing, and sometimes they touched Him. Regardless of the method, the result was the same; sick people went away well.

Today’s nine-elevens teach us that it is incumbent upon us to follow Jesus and do what He says, no matter how differently He decides to deal with our particular case. Those of us who are ready and willing to do things His way will receive what we need from Him.

Are we doing what Jesus says we should do the way He’s telling us to do it? Read over some familiar passages today and assess your obedience level. Start with reviewing the Ten Commandments found in Exodus, chapter 20. Then read Ephesians, chapter 4; Galatians, chapter 5, and Malachi, chapter 3. Choose just one issue out of each passage to work on for personal improvement and as an obedience offering to the Lord.
