The Holy Spirit’s Address

Some people clamber to get into certain neighborhoods. Living in the “right” area equals status. A popular TV series was based on this premise. The show entitled simply 90210 highlighted the prestigious city of Beverly Hills, CA, which boasts that zip code. To be from B.H. meant you were successful, beautiful, and high favored. Your address spoke for you.

The Spirit of God has an address. First Corinthians 6:19-20 directs us to His abode. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (NKJ). With your body as His house, what kind of neighborhood is He living in? Would your name be the title of a TV show about a prestigious zip code or a slum? Is the Holy Spirit proud He lives in you, or would He rather not say (or have you boast) that He abides there? Is His “neighborhood” (your body) experiencing success, beauty, and favor; or is it in a constant state of disrepair?

God the Holy Spirit deserves to live in style. He has paid a high price – Jesus’s blood – for the deed to the property that is you. His payment for it means it’s no longer yours to do with as you please. The new Owner has major renovations in His mind starting with your mind:

  • “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2 (NKJ)
  • “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5 (KJV)

The Sovereign Property Owner – the One who has paid for the land and the structures – has the right to remodel to make His home comfortable for Himself. As children of God, we can’t make the Spirit move out. Once in, He declares imminent domain. “He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you Hebrews 13:5 (NKJ).
